How to Initiate Your Academic Career
a class for graduate students considering a career in academia, developed by Dr. Michael Gooseff
Purpose: This web page has been developed to provide advice to students and postdoctoral researchers in Engineering departments who are interested in having an academic career.  Here at Penn State, we want to give our graduates and postdocs the greatest advantage in their acadmeic career search.  So, we have developed this web page to be a resource for them.  The academic profession has many peculiarities, which, we believe justifies developing this set of specific resources.  These resources are meant to compliment those that focus on "interview skills" and "resume writing" in general, which exist at most universities.

Every fall semester, Dr. Gooseff teaches a class entitled 'How to Initiate Your Academic Career' (a special topics class, CE 597), hosting students from across the College of Engineering.  A sample syllabus from Fall 2011 is available here.
