OpenFOAM - Local scour around objects and structures

Students who have worked on this topic: Yunchen Xu, Yalan Song, and Azadeh Mousavi

A typical local scour model should have three components: the flow field solver, the sediment transport solver, and the bed surface movement component. For complex scour problems, our group has been working on immersed boundary method, which can handle the interaction between complex structure geometries and the deforming bed. In our model, the deforming bed is simulated as an immersed boundary.

The scour model based on immersed boundary method is implemented in the ibScourFoam solver.

Example simulation: scour around a short horizontal cylinder sitting on a cradle
